Pastor said last night of the bible "... an old book with a contemporary theme...", and that sure is true, isn't it? I just run across this in my reading:
Matthew 23:
2Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. ("do as I say and not as I do- pay taxes, avoid regulation that works and affects our personal friends and alliances' BONUSES (Fannie & Freddie..)
4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. ("we'll spend the money, your kids and grandkids can pay for our likely-to-fail programs that destroy our country's foundations...")
5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, ("I want my Gulf Stream ride and I want it NOW!")
6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, (Wednesday's Cocktail hour, anyone?)
7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. (Yes we can! Yes we can! Oh merciful one! (lol, sorry, couldn't help it)..
8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
Yet we are to be separate from those who do that.
